I was born in Mexico and became an immigrant at age 27 when I left Mexico to live abroad. I’ve always loved helping. Before I became a therapist, I worked at a macro level: I worked for the Mexican
Government and for non-profit environmental organizations in Mexico and in international development in the United Kingdom. Although I really enjoyed it, I realized that I was not getting the satisfaction of seeing the impact of my work in people’s daily lives. I decided to go from macro to micro, focusing on touching
people’s lives helping them make their lives happier and more fulfilling. Now my commitment is to help immigrants, prevent family separation due to immigration reasons, and help those who have been victims of abuse or violence. That’s why I perform psychosocial assessments,
so that immigration authorities take into account the emotional damage. Likewise, I give treatment to the most common disorders people suffer from (e.g. depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder) when they have been through domestic violence, a possible family separation, or deportation or any type
of traumatic situation.
My radio program “Hablando de Salud Mental” (“Speaking of Mental Health”) has the purpose of informing, educating and raising awareness about our emotional and mental health, as well as giving general recommendations and resources to receive help. My commitment is to help people from our Hispanic community.
